This Holiday Season, Don’t Become a DWI Statistic

|

Each holiday season, hundreds of Texas drivers are stopped by law enforcement officials on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI). Most of these cases involve a suspicion that the driver is under the influence of alcohol, although some involve drivers who are suspected of using other drugs – whether illegal, prescription, or over the counter.

Being arrested on suspicion of DWI does not automatically lead to a conviction. However, an arrest can have serious effects on your life, including your driving privileges. During the holiday season, you can protect yourself and those you love from becoming yet another DWI arrest statistic by keeping the following tips in mind:

  • Before a celebration, decide whether you will enjoy a holiday drink or drive – but don’t do both. Also commit to drinking responsibly and helping friends and family members do the same.
  • If you think you’ll want to have a drink at a holiday party or event, plan your sober route home ahead of time. Ride with a friend, take public transportation, walk, or have someone arranged to pick you up when you’re ready to head home.
  • Program the numbers for several local cab companies into your phone. Not only will you have access to a sober ride when you need it, you’ll also be able to call a ride for anyone else who looks like they may not be able to drive safely.

At Peek and Toland, LLP, our experienced Texas DWI defense attorneys will fight to help you protect your legal rights while pursuing the best possible outcome in your case. Contact us as soon as possible for a free and confidential consultation.
