The Austin immigration lawyers at Peek Toland & Castañeda PLLC are committed to educating those interested in getting more information about U.S. immigration laws and policies. These are free, informational seminars hosted by our law firm as a service to the community to share our knowledge and expertise in the field of immigration law with the public. We hope that the information we provide will help you make crucial decisions with regard to your particular immigration situation.
What You Can Expect from Our Seminars
Our free seminars are designed to discuss relevant immigration issues that are of interest to participants. Our goal is to provide the information you are seeking and help you make informed decisions. Each seminar will feature a presentation where we will provide a general overview of the topic at hand. This presentation will be followed by a question and answer session where attendees are free to present their questions and concerns. You are free to ask any immigration-related questions during this Q & A session.
DREAM Act and Deferred Action
One of our recent seminars was about Deferred Action and how it works for DREAMers and young people. Our goal with this seminar was to inform immigrants, students, and their parents and families about the wonderful opportunities that lie ahead of them with the new changes to immigration enforcement.
On June 15, 2012, the Secretary of Homeland Security announced that certain people who came to the United States as children and meet several key requirements may request consideration for deferred action for a period of two years, subject to renewal, and would then be eligible for work authorization. Please refer to our webpage on Deferred Action for more information on the qualification requirements, the application process, and other general information.
Why You Need an Immigration Lawyer
Individuals applying for a visa or for citizenship technically do not need a lawyer. They are free to handle the process on their own. However, having a knowledgeable lawyer on your side who stays on top of changing immigration laws, will give you the best chance at being successful. Immigration law is extremely complex and there are some issues that may derail your application. A skilled lawyer can help put your application on the right track.
An immigration lawyer can also help you by advising and presenting the best immigration options available for your circumstances. For example, there are different categories under which one could possibly immigrate. However, one option may be better suited to your situation than another. A knowledgeable attorney will also be able to help you throughout the application process, ensuring that your forms are properly filled out and that you have all of the required documentation. If you make mistakes, your application may be rejected. An immigration lawyer is also the best person to help you solve challenges that crop up unexpectedly during the process. You do not have to do this alone. If you have any questions, please attend one of our seminars, call us at (512) 474-4445 or complete an online contact form to schedule a consultation.
